umbra.
12"x7.5"
will be hanging at The Hive in Los Angeles during December 2013.

She is stitched on natural muslin, watercolor, glass beads, white leather moon, and a torched and wire brushed pine block.

She happened way back in March when I was roadtripping north in Portland. I had this dream where the moon was full and huge, as if it was ready to crush the earth. It was stark white and flashing, causing the entire night to strobe. People were being sort of vaporized as it flashed on, so my surroundings were chaos as I was wandering about in a daze. Then I stumbled into a group of people dressed in very perfect Victorian clothing with gauze tied over their eyes. They were sacrificing people to the moon. The gauze protected them from looking at the moon. Umbra was the one person that I really looked at and remembered, as she reached for me to sacrifice me off to the moon. I woke up and had to draw. I didn't stitch her until just recently. I also left out her gauze because everything I tried putting on her, made her look messy and mreh. I'd rather sacrifice her gauze than have her look disheveled, which she certainly was not in my dream.
